AWR 331 Winter Weather Hazards: Science and Preparedness
Course Description:
Winter storms can strike every state in the United States. It is important that every community be ready for the hazards associated with them. This course assists to provide emergency managers, first responders, and community members across all sectors with a basic understanding of the latest knowledge in winter weather science, forecasting, warning, and best practices in preparedness. The course enhances the ability of participants to identify and describe the hazards associated with winter weather and to better prepare for and mitigate the impacts of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and dangerously low temperatures. The goal of this course is to provide participants with the basics of winter weather science, forecasting, warning, and preparedness. Course Modules: Science of Winter Weather, Winter Weather Forecast Process, Winter Weather Warning Process and Safety, Winter Storm Scenario

PER 344 Social Media Tools and Techniques
Course Description:
This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to use social media tools and techniques for intermediate-level messaging, strategy, and increased situational awareness. This course builds upon the existing PER-304 Social Media for Natural Disaster Response and Recovery course by providing more participants with a more in-depth training in the use of strategy, tools, and messaging techniques in the use of social media.

AWR 228 Community Resilience
Course Description:
This training course will provide state and local government agency staff and other stakeholder groups with background on natural hazards. In addition, the course will guide an approach to (1) assess community resilience and (2) develop next steps for improved resilience. Through increased awareness of natural hazards and best practices, the course will enhance community resilience for state and local government agency staff that routinely interface with the community, private sector, and other stakeholder groups.

MGT 484 Nature Based Solutions for Mitigating Hazards
Course Description:
This 4-hour management-level course aims to highlight nature-based solutions as important and effective tools for mitigating hazards and climate impacts. The course provides planners, government officials, and hazard mitigation professionals information on the types, applications, and benefits of nature-based solutions as well as the common barriers for their use. Beyond an overview of nature-based solutions, the course focuses on the planning and implementation mechanisms that can be leveraged to employ these solutions in practice. This includes planning mechanisms related to land use, hazard mitigation, stormwater management, transportation, open space, and disaster recovery. The course will also highlight important planning considerations for utilizing nature-based solutions, including planning quality, alignment among plans, and equity in nature-based solutions; as well as the public and private funding mechanisms for implementing them.
