MGT 310 Jurisdictional Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
Course Description:
This course will prepare participants to conduct a Jurisdictional Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (THIRA). Participants will identify threats and hazards of jurisdictional concern, give those threats and hazards context, establish capability targets, and determine how to apply the THIRA results. By using the THIRA process, stakeholders will develop a strategy to allocate resources and establish mitigation and preparedness activities. THIRA-informed planning is consistent with and expands on nationally accepted emergency management standards as the basis for planning across the mission areas of prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.

EMPD-Emergency Mgmt Program Development Session #2
Course Description:
The Emergency Management Program Development course provides a comprehensive overview of the statutory requirements and professional duties of today’s emergency manager. Developed and delivered by practitioners in four separate 6 hour sessions, the course is an opportunity for peer to peer learning through lecture as well as task-oriented coaching. Technical and soft skill development in the areas of administration, planning, resource management, training, and exercises are included. Topics covered: Federal Governance, Resource Management, Direction and Control, Damage Assessment, Operations and Procedures and Professional Development

G 235 Emergency Planning
Course Description:
This 2-day course offers training in the fundamentals of the emergency planning process, including the rationale behind planning. It will develop the capability for effective participation in the all-hazard emergency operations planning process to save lives, protect property and the environment threatened by disaster. **This course is part of the FEMA Advanced Professional Series (APS)

You may request lodging reimbursement if you traveled an excess of 50 miles one-way and are an Iowa resident. Requests are based upon available funding. L 0105 Public Information Basics
Course Description:
This course is part of the Basic Academy Program that introduces the participants to what the Public Information Officer (PIO) does in emergency management along with the basic information about the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). The PIO topics covered include the role of the PIO; communication tools and resources encompassing social media; effective communication; preparing the community through outreach and other means; and communication in an incident. The IPAWS topics covered include what the system is and does, preparing alert and warning messages, and writing common alerting protocol messages. This is a classroom course which gives participants time to perform activities and exercises to reinforce the knowledge and build basic skills.

PER 211 Medical Management Of CBRNE Events
Course Description:
This course is a combination of facilitated discussions, small-group exercises, Human Patient Simulator hands-on scenarios, and traditional classroom discussions. This course promotes critical thinking skills while utilizing the RAPID-Care concept. - Environmental factors and protective issues for both first responders and the public - Planning for potential consequences of a CBRNE incident - Recognizing and identifying CBRNE agents and their physiological effects on the human body - Recognizing and identifying CBRNE agents and their physiological effects on the human body - Appropriate self-protection measures and measures necessary to limit patient cross-contamination - Assessment of adult and pediatric patients - Basic decontamination considerations - Appropriate triage methods during a CBRNE or terrorist incident - Response to an incident involving CBRNE - RAPID-Care concepts
