MGT 474 Mitigating Hazards with Land Use Planning
Course Description:
This is an 8-hour management-level training course aims to improve hazard mitigation through the implementation of land-use planning tools. The course provides training on the integration of hazard mitigation and land-use planning efforts and on choosing land-use tools that address different natural hazard challenges. The course will include both community-scale land-use planning tools, like comprehensive plans and hazard mitigation plans, as well as site-scale tools like setback requirements and transfer of development rights (TDR) programs.

MGT 315 Critical Asset Risk Management
Course Description:
Do you fully understand the risk to your facility? Do you know what makes your facility susceptible to risk? Are you prepared to mitigate those risks? The Critical Asset Risk Management course helps participants answer those questions by teaching critical components of risk management. Through a combination of lecture, facilitated discussion, and group activities, participants will learn how threats, vulnerabilities, and consequences determine risk, and are given an opportunity to practice the fundamentals of conducting vulnerability assessments by conducting on-site assessments of select local facilities. Additionally they will identify potential mitigation measures associated with their findings and work together to develop and present a risk assessment report.

MGT 460 Planning For Disaster Debris Management
Course Description:
Learn to identify debris management components and the best planning practices using existing plan examples and case studies. G 2300 Intermediate EOC Functions
Course Description:
This 3-day course will examine the role, design, and function of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and their supportive relationship as a NIMS Command and Coordination component a Multi-Agency Coordination System. Provide training about staffing, organization, information, systems, communications, and equipment needs at the EOC, such activating and deactivating, operations, as well as training and exercising. Focus on the role of an EOC as one of four NIMS Command and Coordination Structures.

1) Park in the NORTH parking lot and enter through the east doors, watch for signs 2) There is a microwave and refrigerator available, including a cash-only snack and soda machine and a water bottle refill station on site. 3) Meals are on you own, adequate time will be provided. 4) This multi-day course is supported with Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) funding. You may request lodging reimbursement if you traveled an excess of 50 miles one-way and are an Iowa resident. Requests are based upon available funding. BEFORE making lodging reservations and PRIOR to start of class, email your lodging reimbursement request to HSEMDTraining@iowa.gov. 5) All other travel will be on your own if the above doesn't apply or requested.
