CERT Basic Training
Course Description:
The Basic Training Course has been updated to include guidance for emerging types of emergency response, individual and community hazards and to incorporate feedback from registered CERTs. It features a revised Disaster Medical Operations section, updated Terrorism and CERT Organization section and new hazard-specific annexes. The Basic Training Course Instructor Guide shares many best practices and tips on how to run a successful CERT training program. To update the course materials, FEMA engaged with technical experts from colleges and universities, partners from within the government and FEMA learning and training subject matter experts. The CERT Basic Training includes research-validated guidance for CERT programs to teach members what to do before, during and after the hazards their communities may face.

Additional Information:
1) Parking will be on the south side of the Sheriff's Office, entrance through SE door marked "Civil/Admin", take elevator up to 3rd floor training rooms. 2) Wear comfortable clothing, prepare to be outside for exercise portion of class. 3) Must attend all class dates to get certificate of completion. 4) A small fee of $20 will help offset the cost of materials and meal for second day. Meal on day one will be on your own. 5) Must be 17 or older to participate in this class. 6) Travel expenses will be on your own. 7) Registration IS required to attend, email details below.

ICS 300 Intermediate
Course Description:
This course provides training on and resources for personnel who require advanced application of the Incident Command System. This course expands upon information covered in the ICS-100 and ICS-200 courses.

EMPD-Emergency Mgmt Program Development Session #4
Course Description:
The Emergency Management Program Development course provides a comprehensive overview of the statutory requirements and professional duties of today’s emergency manager. Developed and delivered by practitioners in four separate 6 hour sessions, the course is an opportunity for peer to peer learning through lecture as well as task-oriented coaching. Technical and soft skill development in the areas of administration, planning, resource management, training, and exercises are included. Topics covered: Commission Governance, Training, Exercises, Homeland Security, Budgeting and Professional Development

During the budget module work session students will need to bring a wireless capable computer. Students will need to have available your FY24 year end reports from the Auditor’s office, to include the July 1, 2023 beginning balance and the June 30, 2024, ending balance. Newer Coordinator may need to get a DOM website password through your Auditor. Do this now, it may take some time for approval. 1) This facility takes a whole block, with Polk County Public Health on the front (south side of bldg)—directly to the north of the Polk County Human Services (DHS) Building. 2) Park in the two east most rows or the southern most row. 3) Lunch will be at the Polk Co EOC. ICS 400 Advanced
Course Description:
This 2-day course provides training on and resources for personnel who has a responsibility to function in a command post managing and expanding incident. Topics include use of an Incident Complex and Area Command, and the interactions between Multi-Agency Coordination (MAC) entities.

L 0105 Public Information Basics
Course Description:
This course is part of the Basic Academy Program that introduces the participants to what the Public Information Officer (PIO) does in emergency management along with the basic information about the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). The PIO topics covered include the role of the PIO; communication tools and resources encompassing social media; effective communication; preparing the community through outreach and other means; and communication in an incident. The IPAWS topics covered include what the system is and does, preparing alert and warning messages, and writing common alerting protocol messages. This is a classroom course which gives participants time to perform activities and exercises to reinforce the knowledge and build basic skills.
