AWR 345 Unmanned Aircraft Systems in Disaster Management
Course Description:
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are an emerging technology on the verge of revolutionizing disaster management. This course aims to explain the uses of UAS in disaster work, from mitigation and preparedness to response and recovery, while detailing the different types of UAS and how they are appropriate for different uses. The course also explains the current Federal Aviation Administration UAS regulations, how to apply for authorization to use UAS, and how to ensure the involvement of the local community and protection of privacy.

AWR 319 Leveraging Tools to Conducting Damage Assessments
Course Description:
This 8-hour course will provide a review of damage assessment, the importance of providing quick and accurate assessments, and an opportunity to review and practice with tools to assist in conducting damage assessments. The course will also review various disaster damage assessment processes, collaborating agencies, and resources. Participants will discuss and develop a damage assessment action plan in order to ensure that resources are in place for an adequate response, followed by a hands-on exercise using various tools and software to collect damage assessments. EMPD-Emergency Mgmt Program Development Session #3
Course Description:
The Emergency Management Program Development course provides a comprehensive overview of the statutory requirements and professional duties of today’s emergency manager. Developed and delivered by practitioners in four separate 6 hour sessions, the course is an opportunity for peer to peer learning through lecture as well as task-oriented coaching. Technical and soft skill development in the areas of administration, planning, resource management, training, and exercises are included. CHEC- Certified Healthcare Emergency Coordinator
Course Description:
While focused on healthcare, this course offers applied emergency management concepts aimed at improving health outcomes. Students will be able to demonstrate the ability to make critical decisions needed to reduce the potential threats to life and property using an “all hazards” approach to disaster management. BASIC: Basic is a two-day classroom-based course. This course provides students with an introduction to emergency management principles, key components and regulations of emergency preparedness and response programs. CHEC Basic is a pre-requisite to the CHEC Advanced ADVANCED: Advanced is a one-day intensive course on plans and exercises.

MGT 461 Evacuation Planning Strategies and Solutions
Course Description:
Evacuations can be ordered at any time for many types of disasters. The larger the scal of the evacuation, the more complex it is to plan as well as to execute. Effective planning helps ensure that evacuations can be conducted swiftly, safetly, and in an orderly manner. This eight-hour management-level course is designed to provide emergency managers, first responders, transportation professionals, security and safety professionals, and government administrators with the ability to utilize current tools and technologies to institute best practices and strategies to plan for and execute an emergency evacuation. This course discusses the hazard conditions for which an emergency evacuation could be an appropriate protective action and inform participants on resources and methods to help them better prepare for an emergency evacuation. This course will allow participants to explore data, modeling tools, and simulations that assist with the implementation of an emergency evacuation.
