This training course will provide state and local government agency staff and other stakeholder groups with background on natural hazards. In addition, the course will guide an approach to (1) assess community resilience and (2) develop next steps for improved resilience. Through increased awareness of natural hazards and best practices, the course will enhance community resilience for state and local government agency staff that routinely interface with the community, private sector, and other stakeholder groups.

This course provides training on and resources for personnel who require advanced application of the Incident Command System. This course expands upon information covered in the ICS-100 and ICS-200 courses.

1) Park and enter from the north side at the business center office 2) Signs will be posted 3) Meals will be on your own, adequate time will be provided 4) This multi-day course is supported with Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) funding. You may request lodging reimbursement if you traveled an excess of 50 miles one-way and are an Iowa resident. Requests are based upon available funding. ? BatteryIQ provides students with a simplified system to understand, identify, and respond to battery-related incidents involving everything as small as a cellphone to an electric vehicle. Students will be provided with Quick Reference Guides that allow students to quickly, effectively, and efficiently categorize battery-related emergencies based on battery type and incident severity. These categories then guide students to determine the potential hazards, required PPE, and correct emergency operation tactics when arriving on scene of a Li-ION Battery Emergency.

This 8-hour course teaches responders how to size-up any chemical, verify the hazards, select the proper meters and PPE and operate safely in the hot zone. HazMatIQ uses an innovative approach based on the predictability of chemistry. HazMatIQ prepares responders by educating them on the threats as well as the equipment required to safely respond to any CBRNE incident. Utilizing easy to understand lessons and intuitive Smart Charts, responders gain battle proven skills and confidence in themselves and their equipment.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are an emerging technology on the verge of revolutionizing disaster management. This course aims to explain the uses of UAS in disaster work, from mitigation and preparedness to response and recovery, while detailing the different types of UAS and how they are appropriate for different uses. The course also explains the current Federal Aviation Administration UAS regulations, how to apply for authorization to use UAS, and how to ensure the involvement of the local community and protection of privacy.
