L 0101 Foundations of Emergency Management
Course Description:
This training is one of the five courses covered under the FEMA Basic Academy program and recommended to be taken first, but not required. The following will be covered in this course: legal issues; intergovernmental and interagency context; influencing, organizing, social vulnerability issues; managing stress; collaboration, preparedness; team building; mitigation; response; prevention and protection; ethical decision-making; recovery; technology; administration; and the future.
Course Prerequisites:
IS-29: Public Information Officer Awareness (prerequisite for E/L0105) IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System IS-120: Introduction to Exercise IS-200: ICS for Single Resources IS-230: Fundamentals of Emergency Management IS-235: Emergency Planning IS-240: Leadership and Influencing IS-241: Decision Making IS-242: Effective Communication IS-244: Developing and Managing Volunteers IS-700: National Incident Management System, An Introduction IS-800: National Response Framework, An Introduction
Course Target Audience:
This course is intended for newly appointed emergency managers from State, local, tribal, territorial, and Federal emergency management agencies, and prospective professionals transferring from another discipline to emergency management. College or university emergency management staff/students, private sector emergency management staff, or anyone looking completing this Basic Academy program.
Additional Information:
1) Parking is located in the back of the building, through the gates. Walk down the left side building sidewalk and enter into the large training room on the lower level. 2) This multi-day course is supported with Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) funding. You may request lodging reimbursement if you traveled an excess of 50 miles one-way and are an Iowa resident. Requests are based upon available funding. Before making lodging reservations and Prior to the start of class, email your lodging reimbursement request to HSEMDTraining@iowa.gov limited to funding availability. 3) All other travel will be on your own if the above doesn't apply or requested. 4) Lunch is on your own, adequate time will be provided.
