Course Name:
Threat Assessment: A Behavior-Based Approach to Preventing Targeted Violence
Course Description:
For over 20 years, the U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) has
conducted research on the thinking and behaviors of those who commit acts of targeted violence, in an effort to prevent future acts from occurring. These attacks have impacted communities in the places that we work, shop, learn, spend leisure time, and worship; in other words, the places we carry out our daily activities.
Ensuring the safety of our communities is a responsibility that belongs to everyone. To inform these efforts, the U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) will present on threat assessment methodology and the findings and recommendations from its research study: Mass attacks in Public Spaces - 2019. It will also highlight case studies of relevant past incidents and focus on how communities can use a multi-disciplinary approach to identify, assess, and intervene with individuals exhibiting concerning or threatening behaviors.
