G 289 Public Information Officer Awareness Training
Course Description:
The one-day Public Information Officer Awareness Course (G0289) is designed to familiarize participants with the concepts underlying the PIO role. This course can provide a basic understanding of the PIO function for those new to the position. Additionally, it can provide those in executive level roles the necessary knowledge of PIO roles and responsibilities during an emergency.
Course Prerequisites:
Recommended: There are no prerequisites for taking the G0289 course. However, participants are encouraged to take the following online courses offered through the Independent Study section of the FEMA website: IS0100.b, Introduction to Incident Command System (or ICS course for specific specialty: healthcare, public works, etc.); IS0702.a, NIMS Public Information Systems; and IS0909, Community Preparedness: Implementing Simple Activities for Everyone
Course Target Audience:
The primary audience for this training is individuals who have public information responsibilities as their main job or as an auxiliary function at the federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial level of government, and in the private and nongovernmental sectors.
A secondary audience for this training includes individuals who would benefit from a general understanding of the emergency public information function. This audience would include elected and other officials (e.g., dispatchers, receptionists) who may work with PIOs or with the news media during an incident or have initial media contact outside an incident through the course of their job.

1) Travel is at attendees expense
2) Park on the east side of the hospital – main parking lot is just west of Zenith Avenue off 23rd Street (2 blocks E of US Hwy 71) 2nd lot is on east side of Zenith Avenue south of 23rd Street. Enter the hospital through the east doors (entrance 'L'), go past the info desk and same-day surgery area to the pair of elevators which will be on the right. They must use the left-hand elevator to go to the basement (Right hand just goes up!).
